The Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) on the impacts of proposed changes in water operations of federal facilities in the upper Rio Grande basin is now available.
This FEIS, prepared by the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission (NMISC), is aimed at formulating a plan for future water operations at federal facilities in the upper Rio Grande basin. The proposed changes in operations must be within the existing authorities of Reclamation, Corps and NIMSC. The FEIS presents alternatives that consider changing waiver dates at Heron Reservoir, changing channel capacities below Abiquiu and Cochiti reservoirs, allowing storage of Rio Grande water in authorized San Juan-Chama space in Abiquiu Reservoir, and allowing varying degrees of diversion to the Low Flow Conveyance Channel. The FEIS summarizes the environmental, economic and social effects of these alternatives. The document is available online at http://www.spa.usace.army.mil/urgwops/finaleis.asp or by contacting Valda Terauds at Reclamation's Albuquerque office (505) 462-3584, 555 Broadway NE, Suite 100, Albuquerque NM. No decision will be made on the proposed action until at least 60 days after release of the document. After the waiting period, each agency will complete individual Records of Decision that state the action(s) that will be implemented and discuss the factors leading to its decision. |
