As a part time resident and avid pedestrian of Angel Fire I feel it is my responsibility to alert the bureaucracy, residents, and businesspeople of Angel Fire about the challenges and problems that face this truly special community of ours.
Of late it has come to my attention that pedestrian access in the village is severely restricted and is incredibly inconvenient. This is particularly true in the case of the town's main intersection of North Angel Fire Rd. and Highway 434. I have noticed that the area there is dire need of a crosswalk zone. Currently it is unsafe and undesirable to take a stroll, bike ride, hike, or any other sort of recreational transport through there. The intersection is a major confluence of trails, sidewalks, and points of interest. Myself not knowing the New Mexico traffic laws in detail, I wholeheartedly suggest a crosswalk zone in the proposed area. A crosswalk would unite the town rather than divide the town the way that the current highway does. Not only would people seeking recreation the the town benefit, but motorized traffic at the intersection would slow down and allow for a smaller possibility of accidents in the central portion of the town. I truly hope that the townspeople and their leaders (namely Stewart Hamilton and the council) will take this proposal to heart and seriously consider adopting the measure.
Sincerest wishes,
